On January 17, the San Antonio del Mar Quarter celebrates festivities to honour its patron saint, San Antonio Abad. Cullera’s fallas have been declared a festivity of Local Tourist Interest and the city burns 15 fallas (papier maché sculptures) in the different quarters, on the night of March 19 during the traditional cremà (burning ceremony).  The stunning fallas (papier maché monuments) invade the steets after the plantà (assembly) ceremony, and compete in terms of wit and beauty. The ninot figures are satirical depictions of the latest events that have peppered the political, social and cultural life on a national and local level.
