Nature

Land of contrasts: mountains, sea, river and lakes.
Cullera enjoys a unique and privileged location, opening out onto the sea, surrounded by mountains and crossed by the River Júcar.
The Cullera Mountains, the wetlands with marshes, lakes, rice fields, the mouth of the River Júcar, dunes and protected areas offer a wide variety of environments and landscapes that envelope Cullera, offering surroundings filled with allure and natural charm.
Cullera is a land of contrasts where different routes allow you to discover and enjoy incredible natural, artistic and cultural heritage, along with this area’s finest landscapes and views.
We propose various interesting natural routes that are singularly beautiful and can be covered on foot or bicycle.

The Cullera Mountains

Natural space with archaeological sites, Mediterranean vegetation with aromatic and medicinal plants such as thyme, rosemary, sarsaparilla, etc. and small natural springs visible in the areas around the Santa Marta footpath.

The River Júcar

The stretch of the River Júcar that runs through Cullera is classed as a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and is part of the Natura 2000 Network. Although the presence of human activity is fairly evident throughout the river system, we can still see species of Mediterranean river woodlands, such as poplar, tamarind trees, etc., characteristic of these ecosystems. There’s nothing quite as pleasurable as watching the river flow past as you walk on its banks along the footpath:

The Marshes and Rice Fields

These ecosystems are part of the landscape of the Cullera plains. This large expanse of land, home to a wide variety of different species, plays an important function in regulating surface waters and, as such, has been classed as the Ramsar Nature Park and Wetlands. Proposed routes:

  • The North Marsh: The Albufera Nature Park in Cullera.
  • The South Marsh of the River Júcar.

El Estany Lagoon

El Estany is a transition lagoon between the marsh and the coastline. It is a saltwater lake situated to the south of the mouth of the River Júcar, opening out onto the sea, with a wide biological diversity of animal and plant species that has led to its inclusion in the regional catalogue of wetland areas.

It is a calm and peaceful place, popular with fishing enthusiasts, especially fans of rod fishing. A lovely area to sample typical local cuisine.
